Sinterklaas is the Dutch equivalent to Santa Claus. He is celebrated with presents to the kids in the Netherlands on the evening of the 5th of December and in Belgium/Poland on the morning of the 6th. He has a black knight, ”Zwarte Piet” (=black Petter).

The Children place a shoe somewhere in the house and and Sinterklaas arrives at night to deliver the presents. Sometimes kids leave a drawing or some carrots in their shoes. According to the tale, Sinterklaas arrives in the Netherlands by steam boat from Spain in mid November.

The modern Santa Claus in the United States is a combination of the traditional Santa and Sinterklaas.

Sinterklass wears either grey or red clothing.
